Baker Driving Rehabilitation

There’s a new CREW in town. Baker Driving Rehabilitation! Baker Driving Rehab is a partnership between Baker Rehab Group and driving rehabilitation therapist, Meredith Lyons. This partnership is, as Sue Paul says, a “you complete me” kind of arrangement with Baker Rehab Group. Baker Driving began seeing the first clients in July and is speeding down the road on this new adventure. BDR has completed training the PIT CREW, Lisa, Pat and Jess, and they have been doing an excellent job providing administrative support to the new company.

Meredith Lyons, OTR/L, DRT (new co-owner and COO) and Jennifer Milsovic, OTR/L, DRT (manager) are our DRIVING EXPERTS. Meredith and Jennifer have been in the field of driver rehabilitation for over 5 years and felt there was a need for more driving services for seniors in Frederick and Montgomery counties.

New driving expert Cindee Smith, OTR/L has joined our group and will manage our Bethesda location at Sunrise at Fox Hill. Keisha Eakin, OTR/L has begun seeing clients in Harford County!

Here is just a brief introduction of the services that BDR will provide:

  • Comprehensive driving evaluations are tailored to the individual needs of our clients. Our evaluations have two main components: the Clinical, or in-office evaluation, and the Behind-the-Wheel evaluation of driving skills.
  • The Clinical evaluation is completed in one of our many office locations. During this evaluation, a client’s driving-related visual, cognitive and physical skills are assessed.  If a client meets the minimum standards for driving, he/she will move forward to the Behind-the-Wheel portion of the Comprehensive Driving Evaluation.
  • At BDR, we believe that the best way to assess a client’s ability to drive is to actually observe the client drive. The Behind-the-Wheel evaluation of driving skills is completed in the client’s vehicle. BDR is test piloting an innovative approach to driving rehab.  We will be the first in the area to offer a client focused driving eval in which the client will get to drive their own vehicle. We still have Rhonda, the BDR car, but will only use her in Frederick for future trainings and as needed for our clients.
  • After a “warm-up” period, during which the client demonstrates a few driving skills in a parking lot, the client is taken on the road. The on the road portion of the test is adapted to meet the individual needs of the client.  Typically, the client is observed driving in parking lots, residential areas, country areas, city areas and highways.
